COLUMBIA (WACH)—They say “up is always good,” however, when it comes to the price of gas, the exact opposite applies. The good news for motorists is that the price of petrol in Columbia has fallen 6.1 cents over the last week, making the average in the Midlands $3.64 a gallon.
Nationally, the price at the pump has fallen at a slower rate, 4.2 cents, to an average $3.85 a gallon.
According to ColumbiaGasPrices.com, gas is 2.2 cents higher today than it was a year ago, and 1.4 cents lower than it was a month ago. "Average gasoline prices nationally continue to slowly drop," said GasBuddy.com Senior
Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan. "I'll go on the record and say that come Wednesday, I expect the national average in the U.S. will actually be lower than it was on the same day in 2011.”
DeHaan also pointed out that the price of gas fluctuates annually in the spring.
