South Carolina senior citizens are keeping an eye on Social Security and Medicare as the GOP presidential candidates make their pitches to potential voters. On Thursday, AARP released survey results showing that by nearly 3 to 1, likely Republican voters in the South Carolina first-in-the-South primary overwhelmingly oppose cutting Social Security and Medicare benefits to reduce the deficit.

In a recent poll conducted by the website Gawker, South Carolina ranked as the 10th worst state in the nation. Employees were asked to rank all the states from best to worst, based on their own criteria. South Carolina is called "just really, really racist."

The United States Geological Survey is reporting a magnitude 5.8 earthquake 35 miles Northwest of Richmond, Virginia. The shocks from that earthquake were felt around much of Columbia.
