Friday, March 09, 2012  After an autopsy and several additional tests, Richland County Coroner Gary Watts has officially ruled Tom Sponseller's death a suicide.

Thursday, March 01, 2012  Columbia police say two people are no longer employed at the department after the investigation into missing Columbia CEO Tom Sponseller. Officers found Sponseller dead in a locked room inside a downtown Columbia parking garage attached to the executive's office building. Sponseller had been missing for ten days.

Wednesday, February 29, 2012  Richland County Coroner Gary Watts confirmed Wednesday that Columbia business executive, Tom Sponseller, died from a single gunshot wound to the head. According to Watts, it appears that he died relatively near the time he was reported missing.

Tuesday, February 28, 2012  Richland County Coroner Gary Watts announced in a news conference today that it appears Tom Sponseller committed suicide. Watts said it appears Sponseller suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
