Nikki Haley attended a fundraiser in Texas hosted by an insurance company.  Haley and two staff members attended the event Tuesday evening at Irving, Texas, offices of Ethos Groups, an auto warranty insurer. Ethos Group has operated in South Carolina since 2009.

    Tuesday, August 09, 2011  The U.S. Department of Education says $143 million of federal bailout money meant for South Carolina's public schools will be doled out to the other 49 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.  South Carolina is the only state not to receive its share of $10 billion passed by Congress last August for teaching jobs.

    Monday, June 27, 2011  The officials familiar with Haley's decision spoke Monday on condition of anonymity so as to not pre-empt the Republican governor's announcement planned for Tuesday.
  • Thursday, June 23, 2011  SC Gov. Nikki Haley said Thursday that Byars is expected to make a full recovery and eventually return to his job. Haley's spokesman declined to provide any additional information on Byars' health.  Haley named Bob Ward as acting director until then. Ward has been at the agency for 29 years and has previously served as interim director.

    Tuesday, June 14, 2011  South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley has named a new state inspector general to replace an appointee who quietly quit in frustration in April.  Haley says James V. Martin will replace George Schroeder. While Schroeder was paid $110,000, Martin says he'll be paid $98,500.

    Friday, May 27, 2011  A report on South Carolina's pilot project on privatizing school bus maintenance shows the contracted bus shop cost the state more money and required more direct state supervision than shops operated by the education agency.  The report comes as Gov. Nikki Haley seeks input on how to privatize the state's school bus fleet.

    Friday, May 27, 2011  South Carolina officials say federal rules on employment verification records have idled the state's illegal immigration inspectors for a month and now their jobs could be eliminated.  Gov. Nikki Haley and the state's top labor official said Friday the state might have to lay off two dozen inspectors because the U.S. Department of Homeland Security won't let employers share electronic employment verification information. Nikki Haley says CertusBank will open a corporate headquarters in Greenville and create 350 jobs.  The governor made the announcement Wednesday at a news conference in Greenville, where officials unveiled plans for a downtown office complex called One Greenville that also will be home to a law firm, retailers and other businesses.
