Maj. Walter Gray was an Air Liaison Officer and flight commander attached to Fort Carson through the 93rd Air Ground Operations Wing at Moody Air Force Base in Georgia. He was commissioned as an officer in October of 1997. He was previously an enlisted Airman and was one of the Air Force's first career Air Liaison Officers.

Police say it wasn't hard to find the teens that stole Sassy the Hippo from an Aiken miniature golf course. Authorities say the teens tried to cover the bright purple hippo head with a sheet in the back of their pickup truck around 3 a.m. Thursday, but the sheet shifted enough so the hippo's large white teeth could be seen by an officer on patrol.
