Monday, October 31, 2011  SC State’s Marching “101” Band was been selected as one of the top eight marching bands at a Historically Black College and University (HBCU) for the 2012 Honda Battle of the Bands Invitational Showcase.

Tuesday, February 15, 2011  Mayor Steve Benjamin awarded a proclamation to U.S. Marine Veteran Lance Robinson.  Robinson is marching across the country to honor those who serve their country.  He is trying to travel to every state capital to rally support to make September 10 a new day of honor: Brother to Brother Day.
