Work has already begun clearing the site for a new Continental tire plant which officials say will employ 1,600 workers by 2021.

State and local officials are holding a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Continental tire plant in Sumter County that could hire up to 1,800 workers. Governor Nikki Haley is scheduled to join executives from the German tire maker for the ceremony that starts at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.
