One Midlands school is receiving national recognition for raising its student achievement. Gadsden Elementary in Richland School District One has been named a National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education.

The Department of Health and Environmental Control says inspectors found bags of raccoon meat at the Lucky Seven No. 2 store on Bluff Rd. in Gadsden. Officials found the meat on two separate inspections.
