On Wednesday, a Senate effort to get the dozens of disqualified candidates back on the ballot died after hours of heated debate. Nearly 200 candidates were tossed off the June primary ballots after the Supreme Court ruled last week they failed to properly file financial paperwork.

Just six weeks before voters head to the polls for the South Carolina primaries, the candidates eligible to run for state and local offices are still unclear. On Tuesday, South Carolina Supreme Court heard arguments in a lawsuit that could disqualify more than 100 Republican and Democratic hopefuls from the June 12 ballot.
