A crumbling 19th century fort in Charleston Harbor has been sold to the Sons of Confederate Veterans for $10. The Post and Courier of Charleston reports the heritage group wants to preserve Castle Pinckney, the first Union fort seized by Confederates before the Civil War.

Some 300 re-enactors are camped out at Patriots Point in commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the Civil War. Sunday morning began with a period church service, followed by artillery drills and cannon firing.
