    Tuesday, May 24, 2011  A former federal prison warden says a Bible-only policy for inmates at a South Carolina jail is stricter than policies governing reading materials allowed to some the country's most dangerous inmates.  John L. Clark says in court documents filed Monday that inmates should be able to receive all religious texts and stapled materials.
  • Tuesday, April 12, 2011  The U.S. Department of Justice wants to intervene in a federal lawsuit over a South Carolina jail's policy barring inmates from having any reading material other than the Bible.  South Carolina U.S. Attorney Bill Nettles in court documents filed Tuesday asked that a federal judge allow the DOJ to be a part of the lawsuit filed in October by the American Civil Liberties Union.
