COLUMBIA (WACH) - This year's in-state gridiron war is still around two weeks away, but Gamecock and Tiger fans are already out for blood.

The 28th Annual Carolina-Clemson Blood Drive kicked off Monday.

Officials say the largest collegiate blood drive in the country is held every year to see which school can collect the most blood before the big football game.

Red Cross organizers say giving is good for two reasons: Saving lives - and beating Clemson - or the other way around.

In Columbia, blood can be donated Monday through Friday from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. in the Russell House Ballroom, along with various Bloodmobile sites around campus throughout the week.
