CAMDEN, S.C. (AP) -- Demonstrative used the long stretch run at Springdale Race Course to go from last in the field of 10 to a one-length victory at the $100,000 Colonial Cup steeplechase.

Saturday's win was the second Grade I victory of the National Steeplechase Association season for Demonstrative, who was ridden by Matt McCarron. McCarron had chosen to retire after suffering a concussion in a fall at Belmont Park in September. He's the nephew of National Racing Hall of Fame jockey Chris McCarron.

Demonstrative covered the 2 3/4-mile race over firm ground in a time of 5:15.80 with Devine Fortune a length behind. Alajmal was another 1 3/4 lengths back in third. Nine of the 10 horses in the field crossed the line with History Boy pulling up approaching the 16th fence.
