Members of Columbia Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit are planning to conduct a public safety checkpoint at various times this weekend.

The checkpoint will be in the area of Harden and Gervais Streets.

Police say the areas were selected based on traffic collisions and DUI violations that have occurred. This checkpoint is being conducted to reduce those violations. Officers will also check to make sure drivers are not intoxicated and have a proper driver’s license. Other violations of the law may also be observed. Every vehicle that enters the checkpoint will be stopped.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP) and other law enforcement agencies will assist CPD in this effort.
