COLUMBIA (WACH) - Authorities say a Columbia firefighter has been placed on suspension after being arrested last Wednesday.

Columbia Fire Chief Aubrey Jenkins says Jason Alan Grande was arrested on February 27 for assault, larceny and possession of controlled substances.

The incident report released by the Lexington County Sheriff's Department states that Grande is accused of being involved in a "roadrage incident with another individual."

Investigators claim Grande reached through the window of another person's vehicle and took the individuals phone against his will while punching him in the head and face area.

The report states Grande told investigators he took the phone because he did not want to be recorded. The other man admitted to investigators he was trying to film the incident to show law enforcement.

Grande caused major injury to the other man's leg, which was broken in two places, according to the report.

Jenkins released the following statement Monday afternoon:

"Jason Alan Grande a member of the Columbia Fire Department, who holds the position of Firefighter, has been placed on investigatory suspension pending the outcome of his charges.  Grande has been with the department since March 14, 2011.  As the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department is investigating, it would be inappropriate to discuss the investigation and all inquiries concerning Grande’s arrest should be directed to the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department.

While unfortunate and isolated, this does not reflect the character, dedication and professionalism by the men and women of the Columbia Fire Department."
