LEXINGTON, SC (WACH) -- As the Lexington School District 1 continues to grow; so is their need for more teachers.

District leaders hosted a unique recruiter fair to find the right candidates on Saturday at Lexington High School.

Potential teachers were screened and interviewed. They were then graded by administrators on a point scale. Officials say the expedited process let them speak with about 500 candidates in four hours.

The information gained will be evaluated and candidates with strengths in certain areas will be matched with the best job. In addition, while candidates waited, they got to speak with current and former teachers of the year; who shared their experiences.

"It is great in the sense that because they are teachers in Lexington 1, they can answer their questions from the classroom perspective," District Human Resources Director Kim Williams said. "They can let candidates know about the district, answer any questions they have about the interview process. So it does help put them at ease before getting interviewed."

Williams said the district is opening River Bluff High School next school year. She said the greatest needs are candidates who can teach different languages, and those that have experience with special needs children.
