HOPKINS, S.C. (WACH) - There was no drawn-out drama, just a simple swipe of the pen, an orange bowtie, Clemson hat, and purple shirt when Marcus Edmond signed on the dotted line.

The Lower Richland High School standout made his college choice official Wednesday morning in the school's auditorium, and was applauded by a crowd of students and faculty as he signed his national letter of intent with the Clemson Tigers.

Despite the fact the University of South Carolina is just a few miles up the road from where he played his high school ball, the Gamecocks were never really an option for the defensive back, who also stars on Lower Richland's basketball team.

"They didn't really recruit me like that, so yeah, I've got something to prove," said Edmond.

The 6-foot-one senior is listed as a three-star recruit and and is ranked as the 11th-best high school recruit in South Carolina by Rivals.com

Edmond expects to play cornerback at Clemson and knows playing time is not a guarantee.

"They say that I bring speed to the secondary," he said. "You have to work hard, period, no matter where you go for a position."

Edmond is part of what is expected to be a top-25 recruiting class nationally for coach Dabo Swinney's Clemson Tigers. The class is comprised mainly of defensive players.
