COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Four people are safe after evacuating a midnight fire in their home.

A passerby noticed the fire and went to the door to get everyone to safety.

The Columbia Fire Department arrived at the home on Overhill Road in northeast Columbia just after midnight Monday. The home had heavy smoke and fire showing. Firefighters put out the fire before morning.

The cause of the fire and cost of damage are still unknown.
