Deputies investigate shooting incident at apartment

Richland County, SC (WACH)--An altercation at an apartment has resulted in one man sent to the hospital.

The Richland County Sheriff's Department said an unknown man kicked in the door of an apartment on the 10000 block of Piney Woods Road early Sunday morning. Deputy Curtis Wilson said once inside, the man got into an argument with the resident.

Wilson said that is when the suspect shot the resident in the lower body. The victim was transported to Palmetto Richland Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

During a sweep of the apartment, deputies discovered marijuana and crack cocaine residue. The victim will be charged with those drugs once released from the hospital.

The department is searching for the suspect. The incident is under investigation.
