Coroner releases name of person killed in Thursday train accident

LEXINGTON, S.C. (AP) -- The Lexington Coroner's Office has released the name of a man killed while walking along train tracks in Lexington.

Lexington Coroner Harry Harmon said Phillip Stout, 22 of Lexington was walking  eastbound in the center of the tracks and headphones when he was struck by the train. The train's engineer tried to stop, but was unsuccessful.  Stout died at the scene from severe head and body trauma. 

Lexington Police Lt. Matt Davis says the man apparently did not hear the Norfolk-Southern freight train late Thursday afternoon.

The accident remains under investigation by the Lexington Police Department.
