RICHLAND COUNTY, SC (WACH) - One person is in the hospital after authorities say he was stabbed by his cousin after watching Mixed Martial Arts Saturday night.

The Richland County Sheriff's Department says around 9 p.m. after the MMA fight ended, Jason Sparks, 37, and another man participated in a play match. Deputy Curtis Wilson said Sparks lost the match and was upset.

Sparks then tried to attack the man. Wilson said that is when his 35 year old cousin tried to stop the attack. Sparks they pulled a pocket knife and stabbed his cousin in the torso.

The incident occurred at the 200 block of Bennington Ct.

Wilson said that as Sparks and his girlfriend took the victim to Providence Hospital, Sparks tried to attack his cousin again before passing out in the back seat.

Deputies say all three men had been drinking. Sparks was arrested and taken to Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center. He is charged with aggravated assault.
