LEXINGTON, SC (WACH) - The Richland County Sheriff's Department invites the public to wave American flags along a procession route for 1st Lt. Ryan Rawl Saturday in Lexington.

The department will pay last respects to Deputy Rawl who also served as a 1st Lieutenant with the South Carolina National Guard.

Rawl was killed along with two other soldiers in Afghanistan on Wednesday, June 20 when a suicide bomber attacked their patrol.

The procession will begin around 9 a.m. Saturday on Sunset Boulevard near Northwoods Road.

Authorities say the road will be closed from Northwoods Road to Old Cherokee Road for approximately one hour and will cause delays. Drivers are asked to use caustion and consider taking an alternate route as detours will be posted.

Sherriff Leon Lott said Deputy Ryan Rawl, with his courage, conviction and self sacrifice was truly on of the very best our nation had to offer, and he gave the ultimate sacrifice.

Officials with the department remember Rawl as an outstanding deputy and an outstanding soldier. He is survived by a loving wife and two children.

Flags on the Statehouse will be at half-staff through sundown Sunday after the last fallen soldiers' memorial service.
