COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Members of the Midlands American Heart Association meeting Friday morning to push the need for people and volunteers to take part in the 2012 Midlands Heart Walk.

The walk is taking place Saturday March 24, 2012 at 8am beginning at The Colonial Life Arena.

Organizers say they are looking for churches, civic groups and anyone willing to form a team for the walk to bring awareness about heart disease.

“Heart disease affects everyone. It doesn’t discriminate and it impacts the lives of more South Carolinians than anything else. Heart and stroke disease and we want to do something to fight back to bring people to have a cure,” says Bob Coble, Co-chair Community Teams of The Midlands American Heart Association.

According to the American Heart Association heart disease is our nation’s number one killer causing 40% of all deaths.
