COLUMBIA (WACH) - Columbia's 24th Annual Greek Festival kicked off Thursday morning at the corner of Calhoun and Sumter Streets.
It's a time when the Capital City stops to celebrate everything Greek, from the food to the culture.
Thursday afternoon hundreds of festival goers tried their share of traditional Greek dishes like souvlaki, baklava and gyros.
However - a big hit with the crowds was an untraditional dessert - called baklava sundaes.
Larry Moore with Zesto's Ice Cream said it's been a festival favorite for the past five years.
"A lot of people say they like it. They cant wait until this time of year to come get it," said Moore.
Organizers said profits from the festival will go to charities and construction of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church on Sumter Street.
The Greek Festival runs until Sunday, September 19th.
