COLUMBUS, OHIO (AP) -- Drug arrests by the Ohio State Highway Patrol are up 13 percent this year, and officials say troopers have been busiest making busts in Stark and Franklin counties.
A report released by the patrol on Tuesday says troopers seized $44.5 million in illegal narcotics through October and made nearly 4,500 drug arrests, about 500 more than during the first 10 months of 2007.
Officials say the patrol is making communities safer by interrupting drug business on Ohio roads.
Stark County, which includes Canton, is the top county for drug arrests and saw 179 suspects taken into custody by troopers through October. Franklin County, which includes Columbus, was second with 175 arrests.
Scioto, Summit and Butler counties finish out the top five.
