COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- University of South Carolina architectural history students are presenting their findings about the South Carolina state mental hospital and its 178-acre campus.

University spokeswoman Frenche Brewer says the class has documented the buildings and history of events at the hospital's campus in Columbia during the past semester. The hospital operated for more than 100 years.

Brewer says students are presenting their findings Monday afternoon at McMaster College on the Columbia campus.

They are discussing the history of race, gender and mental illness over time, as well as the campus' burial grounds, religious buildings and farming.
