COLUMBIA (WACH) - LP sales are alive and well in the Midlands, even in this age of digital media.
Tim Smith, owner of Papa Jazz in Five Points says he's seen a spike in vinyl sales at his shop. He says a younger generation of music lovers are interested in buying records and Smith says their musical tastes run the gamut.
"Always a lot of the classic rock artists like Jimmy Hendrix, the Beatles, The Doors, you know Sly Stone etcetera, as well as a lot of college rock bands like Nirvana, and Pavement."
Smith says sound quality and price are a couple of the advantages records have over CDs and tapes.
"They never really stopped making records, they're just making more of them now," says Smith. "They never stopped making turntables, they're just a lot easier to find now than they were five or ten years ago."
Smith says if records can survive the digital media revolution, they can survive anything.
"The vinyl format is over a hundred years old, so its stood the test of time."
