The 6th Annual Indie Grits Festival is a 10-day deep-fat, southern fried, mega-event celebrating the best in independent film, art, music, craft, food, performance and technology. Indie Grits was named one of the world’s 20 coolest film festivals by 2010 Movie Maker magazine.  Click here for a complete film schedule.

There are four different passes available: 

- Indie Grits Festival Pass + ConvergeSE: $600 and $575 for Nick members for all festival events + ConvergeSE

- Indie Grits Festival Pass: $300 and $275 for Nick members for festival events/concerts

- Indie Grits Film Pass: $130 and ($110 for Nickelodeon members)

- Indie Grits Music Pass: $50, all concerts except Cinemovements

 

Here’s a quick and easy low down on the other events:

April 19

What: All-Festival Kickoff Party 

Where: Grand Hall at 701 Whaley St,

When: 7:00-11:00pm

Why: preview Open Studios, fancy grits bar, Lite Brite station, DJs, live painting, filmfest trailers, and DYI drawing rally

How much: $10 door / $8 advance

 

April 20

What: Spork in Hand Puppet Slam 

Where: Tapp’s Arts Center , 1644 Main Street

When: 7:00-9:00pm

Why: because adults need puppets, too

How Much: $10 advance / $12 door

What: The Olivia Tremor Control, with opening act Coma Cinema 

Where: New Brookland Tavern

When: 8:00 pm

Why: your basic Indie rock, neo-phychedelia, experimental coolio band

How much: $15 advance / $18 door

 

April 21

What: 701 CCA Columbia Open Studios 

Where: driving tour of Richland & Lexington artists’ studios

When: 10am-6pm

Why: visit artists in their private, working studios

How much: FREE

What: Spork in Hand Puppet Slam Day 2 

Where: Tapp’s Arts Center , 1644 Main Street

When: 7:00-9:00pm

Why: seriously, we need the puppets

How Much: $10 advance / $12 door

 

April 22:

What: Slow Food Columbia Sustainable Chefs Showcase 

Where: All-Local Farmer’s Market

When: 4:00 -7:00pm

Why: cooks with a conscience plus cash bar and soul tunes

How much: $20, $30, $35

What: 701 CCA Columbia Open Studios Day 2 

Where: driving tour of Richland & Lexington artists’ studios

When: 12:00pm-6:00pm

Why: art collecting … live and in person

How much: FREE

What: Young Mumbles & the Post-Timey String Band 

Where: The Whig, 1200 Main Street

When: 10:00pm

Why: hello … live music!!

How much: $5

 

April 23

What: Make at Indie Grits – Charcuterie with Motor Supply 

Where: Motor Supply Co. Bistro, 920 Gervais Street

When: 6:00pm

Why: makin’ bacon never hurt anyone

What: Shrimp Records Showcase 

Where: Hunter Gatherer Brewery & Ale House

When: 10:00pm

April 24

What: Make at Indie Grits: Craft Bar Happy Hour 

Where: Columbia Museum of Art , 1515 Main Street

Why: cocktails and superglue

What: Make at Indie Grits - Off Menu with Kristian Niemi 

Where: Rosso Trattoria Italia, 4840 Forest Drive

When: 6:00pm

Why: steak, salad, cocktail and secrets .... shhhhh!

How much: $25

What: Quintron & Miss Pussycat, Openers: Choir Quit + Modern Man

Why: N’awlins Swamp-tech since 1998

April 25

What: CINEMOVEMENTS: Silent Film Scores with 

Morihiko Nakahara & South Carolina Philharmonic

Where: Drayton Theatre

When: 8:00pm

Why: silent films accompany an orchestra, instead of the other way around

April 26

What: AIGA & ConvergeSE film screening 

Where: IT-ology, 1301 Gervais Street, Suite 200

Why: cocktails, movies, and graphic artists

What: Shuffle Magazine Musiv/ Video Showcase

What: Crafty Feast
