COLUMBIA (WACH) -- On July 13th, he beat out nearly 70 contestants to become the 2011 Palmetto Idol. For Antwon Outing it was the third time charm, as he had competed in the annual WACH-Fox event 2 previous times.
With his new title, he was given a guaranteed audition with American Idol producers in Charleston. On Saturday, Antwon joined thousands of would be recording stars for a shot at becoming the new American Idol…or at least a shot at getting past the first round of auditions. “I watched 100 people before me, and only one made it,” Antwon said of how tough the competition was.
In the end, Antwon was passed over, being told that he “wasn’t quite ready.” The temporary setback won’t set back our Palmetto Idol, however. He is planning to be in Houston on August 26th for the final audition and final chance to become the next American Idol.
American Idol returns to WACH Fox in January, 2012.
