LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Fox TV says a moment of silence during the Black Eyed Peas performance on `American Idol' wasn't the network's doing.

Midway through the song "Boom Boom Pow," TV viewers heard only silence and saw an "Idol" logo across the screen for a few moments. A Fox spokesman said it was singer will.i.am's decision to stay mum, apparently to keep an expletive from airing during Wednesday's performance.

The two-hour finale of "American Idol" featured a lineup of pop stars, including the Black Eyed Peas, Cyndi Lauper and Keith Urban.

Finalists Adam Lambert and Kris Allen were vying for the "Idol" title.
