COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- A former deputy police chief in Columbia has sued the city, saying she was discriminated against by city officials.

Isa Greene filed the federal lawsuit after exhausting her appeals with the city seeking reinstatement.

Greene was fired after the police department mishandled the search for a missing lobbyist whose body was later found in the parking garage of the building where he worked.

Greene had been with the department for 33 years when she was fired last March.

She says was paid less than men holding equal rank. She also says she was made a scapegoat for the botched investigation of Tom Sponseller's death. She blames other officers still with the department for the botched search.

Police Chief Randy Scott, the city and the police department deny Greene's allegations.
