COLUMBIA (WACH) - Raising the state's fuel tax is a hot topic floating under the copper dome.

While it could cause more pain at the pump, supporters say it would help cure the hurt in South Carolina's road system.

A group called the South Carolina Alliance to Fix Our Roads is pushing for an increase in the State's $0.16 tax to fund road improvements.

Currently there are no bills before the General Assembly to raise the gas tax.

South Carolina's gas tax is the third lowest in the country, but when Gov. Haley delivered her State of the State address last week. She said she would  not sign any bill to increase the gas tax.
