Standing-room-only crowd shows up for meeting of Kershaw County school board to voice support for maintaining junior varsity athletics. Parents and student athletes delivered passionate pleas to board members asking them not to cut JV sports to save money. They say removing the programs would create new opportunities for children to get in trouble and would also remove opportunities for students to develop athletic skills that could lead to future scholarships.
Understanding that the school district faces tough choices to keep the budget balanced, parents are offering ideas and pledging to work with the school board to save JV athletics.
Also attending tonight's meeting are bus drivers and custodians who also stand to lose jobs and/or salary as the school board looks to trim its budget.
