A walk was held on Sunday, for those whose lives have been touched by perinatal loss

Palmetto Health hospitals-Palmetto Health Baptist and Palmetto Health Richland sponsored the annual "Hearts and Hands Forever Walk" at Riverfront Park.  The one-fourth mile memorial walk was designed for anyone who has been affected by the loss of a baby, either through miscarriage, stillbirth, ectopic pregnancy, neonatal or newborn death.

People often find it difficult to talk about perinatal loss, said Rosalie Blair, Social Worker at Palmetto Health Baptist and one of the coordinators of the walk. Yet we know that it is very important for families to have the opportunity to grieve as they would other losses. Our goal for the walk is to both bring together families who have experienced the same kind of loss and raise the awareness and understanding of perinatal grief.

Palmetto Health Baptist also offers We Remember, a monthly support group for parents grieving a pregnancy loss or early infant loss. The group meets 6:30-8 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of each month in Palmetto Health Baptists Pastoral Counseling Seminar Room.
