Community rallying to help Sandy victims recoverA group of concerned community members are coming together to help those affected on the East Coast by Hurricane Sandy, and are asking for your help. The Columbia Hurricane Sandy Relief Effort is collecting basic supplies and cash donations to help victims as they continue to pick up the pieces following the devastating storm. Volunteers will deliver the supplies to some of the hardest-hit areas.Donations will be collected at 5143 Forest Drive in the The Turning Pointe’s parking lot Friday, November 9 through Thursday, November 15. Volunteers will be out each day accepting donations from 9 a.m – 6:30 p.m.Here is a list of specific supplies Sandy victims say they need:
socks - batteries
blankets - toilet paper
paper towels - bleach
jackets - baby wipes
undergarments - feminine products
soap/ deodorant - garbage bags
shovels/ brooms - toothbrushes
cleaning supplies - plastic Rubbermaid style totes All cash and check contributions will be used to purchase additional supplies and are tax deductible through local nonprofit, The South Carolina Contemporary Dance Company.Checks can also be made out and sent to:
