About Boating Safely is a state approved boating course
taught by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary on Saturday, April 17, 2010 from 9:00am–4:00pm. The class will be held at Lake Murray Community Center, 1031 St. Peters Church Road, Lexington.$25.00 course fee includes materials. Class size is limited. Coast Guard Auxiliary boating course will be issued the South Carolina Boater Education Card from the Department of Natural Resources (DNR). This is an introductory boating course with emphasis on recreational boating safety. You will learn what to do before you get underway and the basics of protecting and handling your boat or PWC safely. Also included are waterways navigation, safety equipment, boating problems and emergencies, and legal requirements for boating in South Carolina. The boating course is designed for boaters of all ages and experience; there is something for everyone. In South Carolina, boaters under 16 years of age are required by law to pass an approved boater education course before operating, without supervision, a personal watercraft (PWC) or a boat powered by 15 hp motor or more. Many insurance companies offer discounts to graduates of the boating education course.
